Overview
This project consists of a CG scene depicting a reconstruction of the ancient site of Yachilán in Chiapas, Mexico. Rediscovered in the 19th century, Yaxchilán revealed marvellous structures which doorways were adorned with marvellous lintels.
Scope of Work and Skills
The 3D reconstruction was created with Blender and textured using Substance Painter. It is based on the surviving building Structure 33 located in the archaeological site of Yaxchilán in the state of Chiapas, Mexico.
The video was produced using virtual production techniques and real-time rendering with Unreal Engine.
Related Work
A Virtual Reality version of the scene invites people to explore the interior of the Mayan structure using an Oculus Quest headset.
Each of the three central doorways houses a 3D scan of an ancient lintel from the site of Yaxchilán, today on permanent display at the British Museum.
